Casio Computer Co Ltd will release the “S100” high-end calculator in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the release of its first calculator.
n
The expected market price of the S100 is ¥27,000. Casio expects that it will be sold at high-grade stationery stores and some volume retailers.
n
The size and weight of the calculator are 183.0 x 110.5 x 17.8mm and about 250g (including a battery), respectively, which are not much different from those of other calculators. Also, its four arithmetic operations, tax calculation, percentage calculation, square root calculation and other calculation functions are normal.
n
On the other hand, its high-visibility display, easy-to-operate keys, high-quality casing, etc, are features that normal calculators do not have. It is Casio’s flagship model that pleases the owner, the company said.
n
For example, for the display part, Casio used the “industry’s first” display window with a double-sided anti-reflection coating to reduce light reflection. In addition, the company employed a high-contrast FSTN LCD to realize a high visibility.
n
For the keys of the S100, Casio used the industry’s first “V-shaped gear link slim isolation keys.” With the V-shaped gear link structure, the keys do not tilt no matter which part is pressed by a finger. As a result, the slim design with low-height keys and stable key operation were realized at the same time.
n
In addition, with “isolation keys,” which have enough gaps in between, Casio made typing easy. Furthermore, the numbers on the keys are not printed but realized by “two-color molding.” As a result, the numbers will not be erased even after a long period of use.
n
Casio employed an aluminum alloy as a material for the casing. The main part of the casing, which encases the display and keys, is cut out from a mass. And alumite treatment, which increases corrosion resistance, and a hairline finish, which improves texture quality, were applied to its surface. Casio applied “diamond cut treatment,” which adds luster, to the periphery of the casing and “spinning pattern,” which shines, to the selectors used for the settings of omission and round-off.
