NTT Docomo will have a booth at CEATEC JAPAN 2012 at which it will present experiential demonstrations and stage shows introducing a multitude of services and advanced technologies that help people live and work smarter. CEATEC, Japan’s largest mobile industry trade show, will be held at the Makuhari Messe exhibition center in Chiba from Oct 2 to 6.
n
The Docomo booth will comprise three sections “R&D,” “Smartphone X Home electronics” and “New Models.” The following are some of the highlights that will be offered in each section.
n
1) R&D
n
Hands-free Videophone
n
Docomo will introduce a concept handset, worn like glasses, for hands-free videophone communication. Images taken by multiple, ultra-wide-angle cameras in the glasses-like frame make the other person feel as if they are right in front of the user.
n
Grip UI
n
This concept user interface enables smartphones to be operated with one hand simply by gripping the phone in different ways. The UI detects where and how much pressure is applied to activate shortcuts for functions and a host of other operations. Thanks to this handy interface, easy operation is always assured, even if the user does not have a free hand to press touchscreen icons.
n
ibeam
n
This amazing concept user interface for tablets makes it possible to scroll a browser screen or turn pages of a book reader simply by eye movement. With ibeam’s eye-tracking technology, many applications can be operated even if the user’s other hand is busy holding a train strap, carrying bags, etc., making it difficult to operate the device with their fingers.
n
2) Smartphone X Home electronics
n
Shabette Robot
n
This concept “docomo cloud” service incorporates a small, in-home robot as an intelligent personal assistant that talks with users to provide them with highly personalized information.
n
Multi-company Demonstration
n
In a stage show, Docomo will demonstrate how people will use their smartphones to connect to various home electronics products. Joining the demonstration will be electronics manufacturers NEC, Panasonic, Sony, etc. People who collect a stamp at each of the booths will receive a gift.
n
3) New Models
n
New smartphone and tablet models
n
Visitors can see and experience the advanced smartphones and tablets that Docomo is releasing this autumn. They also will get a sneak preview of selected models from the upcoming 2012 winter lineup to be announced later.
n
Admission costs 1,000 yen at the door on Oct 3-5 or free for pre-registered visitors. Admission is free for all visitors on Oct 6.
