Facts are opinions. Elvis is alive. The “Matrix” trilogy was the best film trilogy of all time.

Each of the above statements is up for debate, the last one in particular. You can find them all at Amirite.com, a new London-based start-up which wants to harness online opinions in one place and provide a platform for debate.
n
Amirite was recently announced as a top 3 winner in the UK’s largest Investment Competition with judges comprising of some of the world’s leading Venture Capital Firms such as Accel, Doughty Hanson, Index Ventures and Fidelity Growth Partners.

Users can post an opinion like those mentioned before inviting others to either agree or disagree with them. They can also explain their reasons for leaning to one side or the other in the comments section below the statement. Users can log on to Amirite through Twitter, Facebook or their email.
n
Each Amiriter can post anything from the whimsical to the topical. This week, there have been debates on the fiscal cliff in the U.S., Obama, New Year’s, and the Mayan prophecy while the conflict in Syria and Kate Middleton are also popular debates. Amirite — both a website and iPhone application — is set to be the next big thing, described by tech enthusiasts as a mix between Twitter, Reddit and Formspring.
n
With the number of registered members at around 34,000, this number is growing exponentially. There are currently over 700,000 posts, 2 million comments and nearly a billion votes. Votes are used for ranking opinions and a sophisticated achievement system is in place too. Amirite.com is the only platform on the Internet which is solely focused on people’s opinions. Suitably their ‘Every opinion matters’ slogan is very catchy.

An Amirite.com spokesman says: “One of the things that shouted out to us was the fact that anyone can tweet in 140 characters, you can rant on a blog or on the comments of a news site, but there’s nowhere to have proper discussion, intelligent or otherwise. Ultimately, Twitter is the place to see what people are doing. We want to be the place where you go to see what people are thinking.”
n
“Since the dawn of the Internet, everyone’s had an opinion. We have started to see more of these opinions proliferate as there are more and more people online, but what we’ve not seen is that information properly structured in a way that it can be utilised. Our primary aim is to become the home for debate on the web and the place for people to find out whether they are right”
n
A post selected to be a Post of the Day or POTD is highly sort after and many users strive to achieve this. If selected their opinion can be broadcast to millions of people around the world and even be quoted by news agencies, and websites. Want to find out whether you’re “rite” about something?
