AsusTek launches PC that doubles as touchscreen tablet

AsusTek Computer Inc. unveiled a new 18.4-inch computer Friday that can also be used as a gigantic tablet.
Called TransAiO, the device functions as a desktop computer when displayed on a stand, but it can also be used as a portable tablet.

It comes preloaded with two operating systems — Windows 8 and Android 4.1 — which can be toggled an click of button.
Combining the productivity-enhancing features of a Windows desktop computer with the flexibility of Android tablet, TransAio is “the world’s first all-in-one PC,” the Taiwan-based firm said.
The new computer, which debuted in North America on April 12, will become available in Japan on April 20, and the price is expected be around ¥160,000.
The tablet part runs 1.7GHz quad core processor with 2 gigabytes of memory, while the PC portion comes with Intel Core i-7 processor and 8 gigabytes RAM, a DVD drive and 2 terabytes hard drive.
Asus also announced that its Fonepad, a 7-inch tablet that comes with a telephone capability, will debut on April 25. The SIM free 340-gram tablet is powered by Android 4.1 and comes with 1 gigabyte RAM as well as front and rear facing cameras.
The retail price will be around ¥30,000.
