Canon unveils digital non-mydriatic retinal camera

Canon Inc and Canon Marketing Japan Inc have launched the CR-2 digital non-mydriatic retinal camera, the world’s first dedicated digital camera unit with industry’s smallest and most lightweight body design. The Canon CR-2 enables examinations without the use of pupil-dilating eye drops, reducing strain for the patient and providing reduced power consumption through the inclusion of a white LED lamp.

The CR-2 includes a near-infrared CCD unit and an observation monitor. Through the use of technologies cultivated in Canon’s EOS digital SLR camera lineup, the device offers gradation expression and image processing well suited for fundus photography, enabling the capture of high-quality images for increased examination accuracy.

The Canon Digital Retinal Camera CR-2 will be available in Japan starting next month.
