Coca-Cola to start introducing vending machines with LED lighting

Coca-Cola (Japan) Co Ltd, its 12 bottling partners and other affiliates of the Coca Cola system in Japan plan to install vending machines employing LED lighting in product displays for all new purchases of machines for beverage products in cans and PET bottles, starting from 2012.

Compared to the conventional fluorescent lighting, LED lighting reduces energy usage by 70% on an average. The Coca-Cola system has cooperated with voluntary action plans of the soft drink industry, and through various measures to improve energy-saving functions and the introduction of new technologies, annual power consumption for vending machines has been reduced by approximately 66% over the last 10 years. Now with the energy saving from these lighting changes, the system is aiming for even greater reduction of electric energy.
