Digital TV mobile phone shipments top 25 mil units

Cumulative shipments in Japan of mobile phones capable of receiving digital terrestrial television broadcasts topped 25 million units in February, an industry group said Wednesday.

Shipments totaled 25,870,000 units, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said. Shipments topped 20 million units only in December last year. In February alone, shipments totaled 2,948,000 units, accounting for 61.5% of overall mobile phone shipments. The ratio exceeded 60% for the second straight month.

Total mobile phone shipments in February fell 0.8% from a year before to 5,054,000 units, marking the first fall in four months.
