DOCOMO tests panorama photo app that converts images into video

NTT DOCOMO has launched a free trial smartphone application that creates dynamic panoramic images by automatically stitching photos together and then converting part of the still panorama into video.
n
The app is unique in that it enables the user to select an image in the panorama, such as a Ferris wheel, and convert it into video. Sound also can be added.
n
The user takes a series of photos while moving the phone in a sweeping motion guided by the application. Cloud processing is used to seamlessly stitch the photos together and convert the user-selected image into video.
n
The resulting image expresses spatial depth similar to a projection on a curved screen, and the viewing angle can be changed simply by swiping the screen.
n
The photos can be shared via the cloud-based docomo Photo Collection service and the docomo SP mode mailing service for DOCOMO’s smartphones and tablets.
n
DOCOMO said it is offering the service on a trial basis until the end of November, based on which it will incorporate user feedback to improve the service for commercial launch.
