Foreign passengers sought for world’s first self-driving taxi trial from Haneda, Narita

A consortium of seven companies is accepting reservations from foreign travelers to take part in a trial run using an MaaS (Mobility as a Service) self-driving vehicle from either Haneda and Narita airports to Tokyo’s Marunouchi business district between Jan 20 and Feb 1, 2020.

The seven companies are Airport Transport Service Co Ltd, Tokyo City Air Terminal Co Ltd, Nihon Kotsu Co Ltd, Hinomaru Kotsu Co Ltd, Mitsubishi Estate Co Ltd, JTB Corp and ZMP Inc. ZMP announced the MaaS (Mobility as a Service) experiment of urban transportation infrastructure connecting with the airport limousine bus, self-driving taxi and autonomous personal mobility in October.

The application window for Japanese nationals to join the trial has been closed. Foreign participants are being sought to demonstrate the viability of the service for growing international tourism to Japan and as a solution to the language barriers in Japan.

Foreign passengers can travel between Marunouchi in central Tokyo and (Haneda or Narita) airport via Tokyo City Air Terminal (T-CAT) located near Tokyo Station between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the designated experiment period.

The fare is 3,800 yen (tax included) between Narita and Marunouchi and 1,600 yen (tax included) between Haneda and Marunouchi. The fare between Tokyo City Air Terminal (T-CAT) and Marunouchi will be 1,200 yen (tax included).
