Google to pay royalties for music used in YouTube video clips

Google Inc has agreed with Japan’s largest music copyright administration body to pay royalties for music used in video clips posted on its YouTube site.

The agreement allows users of Google’s video-sharing site to freely post video clips using music copyrighted by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers, known as JASRAC.

JASRAC holds some 1.52 million copyrighted themes.
