Hitachi develops new LED backlight products for LCD TVs

Hitachi has launched new additions to its LCD TV lineup. These TVs integrate Hitachi’s new S-LED (Slim-block LED) backlight technology developed in conjunction with Global Lighting Technologies (GLT).

The brightness of each backlight is independently controlled by a small block of LEDs, producing exceptionally sharp contrasts with clear colors and true deep blacks. Scaling back brightness in black pixels also allows for less power consumption: about 27% for the L42, and 21% for the L37.
