In brief: Line partners with Visa to launch credit card
Line Pay announced today plans to introduce in Japan the Line Pay co-branded credit card in partnership with Visa. The Line Pay-Visa credit card is slated for release later this year, significantly expanding payment options for Line Pay users in Japan and accelerating the country’s shift to becoming a cashless society.

The partnership will allow Line Pay users to make payments at Visa-accepting merchants worldwide. Users can link their credit card to their Line Pay app, enabling them to make payments without a physical card.

Line Pay – the payments platform operated by messaging app Line – has already launched prepaid cards. But the new Visa card gives users the ability to make purchases using a credit line without the need to top up their mobile wallet. Those who get the Visa credit card will also receive rewards for using it.
