Infobar wows again with interface innovation

On Thursday, KDDI Corp.’s au brand unveiled the latest model of the Infobar smartphone series, which will hit the Japanese market after mid-February.

The Infobar series, produced by well-known product designer Naoto Fukasawa, has been popular for its unique design

A distinctive feature of the new Infobar is its next-generation tile-shape-icon user interface. Although it resembles previous models, users can clearly see differences when swiping and scrolling through the icons, which respond to the touch with a jelly-like motion.

Users can customize the user interface by rearranging tiles and altering their size.

KDDI said since some people pointed out that the icons’ jelly movement could make them dizzy, users can choose to turn off that function to keep the icons’ shape fixed.

The carrier also said another appealing point is the sound, which was overseen by Keigo Oyamada (aka Cornelius). For instance, when a user try to move a tile icon to different place, it creates a sound of gamelan ball as the icon touches other tiles.

The handsed made by Taiwan’s HTC Corp. boasts a 4.7-inch display and is powered by Google’s Android 4.1 with a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor chip. It is also LTE-ready and waterproof.
