They’d just passed 100 million users last January and then 200 million users last July. After LINE launched the service in June 2011, it gained in popularity in Japan and started exploding in popularity outside of Japan (mainly Asia, Europe, Russia, and South America)
n
According to LINE CEO Ryo Morikawa, LINE is aiming to grow in popularity in large countries such as India, Brazil and the U.S. and reach 500 million users within 2014.
n
LINE began in 2011, founded by engineers at NHN Japan, the Japanese arm of Naver Corporation (formerly NHN) based in South Korea. Today, it is operated by LINE Corporation, a spinoff company, headquartered in Japan.
