eB Card Corporation, a specialized prepaid smart card distributor for cashless life, and NTT Docomo, have developed eB Card’s “cashbee” prepaid mobile payments service application implemented with NFC (near field communication) technology for provision on a cross-border basis to Docomo smartphone users visiting South Korea.

The cashbee brand was launched in December 2010 by eB Card, an affiliate company of the food and shopping multinational corporation Lotte Co. It currently has about five million users and is accepted at some 54,000 locations, including department and convenience stores in the Lotte group, as well as subways, buses and taxis.

The app will enable Docomo customers with NFC-compatible smartphones to make cashbee payments in South Korea in the same way they use Docomo’s Osaifu-Keitai mobile wallet services in Japan. They will also use the cashbee app to obtain exclusive airport bus timetables, subway maps and coupons.

Hozumi Tamura, Vice President and Managing Director of Docomo’s Smart-life Planning Department, said: “We are very pleased to provide the cashbee prepaid mobile service application for our customers when they visit Korea. We look forward to introducing further cross-border NFC services for enhanced customer convenience.”
