NEC Corp has been selected by Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (MTS), Russia’s largest mobile operator, to provide iPASOLINK EX, NEC’s outdoor, integrated, ultra-compact microwave communications system supporting 70-80GHz band communications (E-Band). This innovative all-outdoor radio solution will allow MTS to reduce the time to deploy mobile transport networks and ensure uninterrupted operations in extreme weather environments.

iPASOLINK EX is a compact, lightweight system that occupies a small footprint and is easy to install throughout a wide range of outdoor areas. NEC’s pioneering solution supports a high modulation method (256QAM), enabling very high 1.6Gbps transmissions using narrow bandwidth (250MHz) communications.

“Our customers are used to high quality services. MTS introduces advanced technical solutions on a regular basis to provide our clients with premium communication services while meeting growing services consumption demand. iPASOLINK EX fully meets our capacity transmission, capability and reliability requirements. NEC’s microwave equipment is able to work even in severe weather conditions in any region of Russia – from Kaliningrad to Chukotka,” said Sergey Galtsev, Head of Infrastructure Development Department at MTS.

In the coldest months of the year the average temperature in Chukotka ranges from -15°C to -45°C, rising to +5°C to +14°C in the summer months. While the most extreme temperatures on record in Kaliningrad range from -33.3°C to -36.5°C.
