Nissan Motor Co. said Thursday it has developed a system in which any golf putt will lead the ball into the cup, by capitalizing on its self-driving technologies.

To highlight its capabilities with the system, the major Japanese automaker released a promotional movie on its website the same day.

Nissan will set up a space at its headquarters in Yokohama, for four days from Aug. 29, for visitors to experience putts that never fail.

A camera in the system recognizes the location of a putted ball, which is embedded with a motor, and the cup. A computer calculates the correct trajectory for the ball by taking into account the strength of the putt and other factors, to guide it into the cup using wireless data transmissions.

Nissan has already put into practical use a technology that enables hands-off driving while cruising in a given expressway lane, which leads the car to an exit in accordance with a route set by the car navigation system. The company came up with the idea for the golf technology from the vehicle system.

“We hope that people who don’t have much interest in automobiles will be able to enjoy Nissan’s technologies,” a company official said.
