NTT Communications Corp (NTT Com) on April 1 will launch a global hosting service that creates office PC environments which are securely accessible from anywhere using a USB key.

n

The service, named Virtual Office Hosting, will be provided under NTT Coms BizCITY model for enterprise services that customers access securely from anyplace at anytime.

n

The new service will enable employees to safely replicate their office computers desktop environment at home, in a domestic or remote office, or a shared PC in a hotel business center. Users will simply insert a personalized “MagicConnect” USB key into their remote PC to access office email and run office applications and groupware on a virtual PC hosted with VMware Infrastructure 3 virtualization technology at NTT Com’s robust data center in Hong Kong. All information will be secure because no data will be stored in the remote PC.

n

Virtual Office Hosting will be available initially in Mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Expansion into other regions is envisioned. Support will be provided in Japanese between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on business days, and in English and Chinese on a 24/7 basis.

n

Service options will include applications such as Microsoft Office, messaging (mail, scheduler and groupware), antivirus software, data backup and virtual PC management.

n

Virtual Office Hosting is expected to help meet growing needs for enterprise employees to have secure access to their office PCs while away from office, including while traveling overseas. The service will also help enterprises to reduce total cost of ownership of their ICT resources, and to secure environments that ensure global business continuity even during emergencies.

VMware solutions can be deployed rapidly by service providers such as NTT Communications as the foundation for innovative services. NTT Communications successful rollout of its new services demonstrates the critical role of VMwares VDC-OS in transforming the datacenter into a cloud environment that addresses customers stringent demands for flexibility, speed and resiliency in their IT systems. The ability of VMware-based clouds to federate with other cloud environments has the potential to further enhance the flexibility and scalability of these solutions and help service providers deliver maximum performance and cost savings to customers,” said William Shelton, director, emerging products and solutions, VMware,Inc.
