NTT DoCoMo to increase investment in German company

NTT DoCoMo Inc plans to make an additional investment of up to 28.4 million euros, or about 3.1 billion yen, in net mobile AG, a leading German mobile and interactive service provider that DoCoMo has acquired in 2009 through its wholly-owned German subsidiary.

Net mobile will use the additional investment to acquire a controlling stake in Bankverein Werther, a private German bank with strong electronic commerce and payment services. Net mobile looks to enhance its mobile payment platform by utilizing Bankverein Werther’s existing banking license, credit card licenses, and main systems. In addition to net mobile’s current operator-billing systems, such as premium SMS payments, the acquisition will offer the company direct debit and credit card payments, as well as various means of settlement.
