Tokyo Metro subway is testing a new system for guiding visually impaired people at stations. The test was conducted at Tatsumi Station on the Yurakucho Line this week.

Special barcodes were placed on tactile blocks on the platform and near exits. When the barcodes are scanned by a smartphone, an audio guide informs users of specific directions.
n
Visually impaired people who participated in the test said the audio guide helped to ensure their safety and thought it would be especially useful when going to a station for the first time, Fuji TV reported.
n
The tests will be continued until spring of next year.
