An interactive map system consisting of two electric 47-inch touch-screen guideboards equipped with multiple user interfaces has been set up at two of the 32 exits of Ginza subway station on a trial basis, subway operator Tokyo Metro said. The trial will run through June 30.

Tokyo Metro and Hitachi Corp have prepared vertical type and horizontal type flat-screen LCD displays. One has been set up at Sukiya intersection exit and the second one at Ginza 4-chome exit.

The interactive display allows commuters to look up the map of the surrounding area as well as underground passages and directions to shops, banks, post offices, restaurants and so on. It includes a list of most frequently searched shops by category. Touching the icon shows the location and shortest route to the destination. Commuters can also download the map to their mobile phones.
