Toshiba to buy chip-production assets of Bridgelux

Toshiba Corp announced Tuesday that it is buying the chip-production assets of Bridgelux Inc, of Livermore, Calif.

Toshiba and Bridgelux jointly developed a white LED chip using “GaN-on-Silicon” technology, which was released in December 2012.

The acquisition will bring skilled employees from Bridgelux who will remain with the California facility, as well as technology, R&D and development assets. It will allow Toshiba to have better competitiveness in LED businesses, LCD panels, etc.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
