UQ Communications demonstrates world’s first WiMAX 2 field trial

UQ Communications Inc said Wednesday that it had succeeded over 100Mbps transmission for downlink in the world’s first WiMAX 2 field trial under mobile environment around Otemachi in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward, in collaboration with Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.

WiMAX Forum Release 2 (WiMAX 2) based on IEEE802.16m is the evolved technology of WiMAX offering commercial service today. Standardization of IEEE802.16m was completed in March and WiMAX 2 was standardized in WiMAX Forum in May. IEEE802.16m has been proposed as IMT-Advanced technology from IEEE and Japan to ITU (International Telecommunication Union), and will be approved next year.

UQ said it will continue to trial for high speed data transmission and system performance evaluation tests under the outside environment in central city by using WiMAX 2 trial base station.
